Ya No Hay Tiempo
Portly woman and mother
More than meets the eye
Scared yet still standing
In fact, the only still standing save for the aggressor
who flashily yet uselessly brandishes his sword:
curved, metal, occupying space yet touching none.
Face of action
Alert with nostrils flared
Eyes wide like a horse spooked yet ready to act
Body parts surround
A leg splayed at sword, two arms and elbows unnaturally cramped.
Face of sorrow and remiss
Wishing for times of home
Inconsequential yet vastly unattainable in the present.
Bent knee / Arched back
Tension between that of shoulder blades like a suspension bridge
ready to snap under the pressure of bone.
Why do they do this to us?
Certainly not of will
Unsteadiness, horror, and unsure motion tells us so.
A square light of hope breaks through.
A light in the madness.
